This liquid level sensor works by detecting changes in the refractive index.
Dry State (No Liquid): When the sensor tip is exposed to air, the infrared light reflects back to the receiver. The output signal is High ( >4.6V ).
Wet State (Liquid Detected): When liquid submerges the sensor tip, the light refracts out. The receiver detects less light. The output signal switches to Low ( <0.3V ).
This binary output is easy to interface with any MCU or control board.

Working Principle
The PLS-SS100 optical float switch operates based on the principle of infrared light refraction and reflection. The built-in infrared emitting diode transmits light signals to the optical probe. When the probe is exposed to air, the light is totally reflected inside the probe and received by the internal receiving diode, presenting a specific switch signal state. When the probe is immersed in liquid, the refractive index of the external environment changes, causing most of the light to refract out of the probe. The receiving diode cannot receive effective light signals, and the switch outputs another state signal. By identifying the change of optical signal, the sensor realizes automatic judgment and real-time feedback of liquid level height, so as to achieve automatic control of liquid level rise and fall.
