A liquid level sensor is a device designed to detect changes in liquid height; its fundamental principle involves converting the liquid's height into a measurable physical signal. Common types of liquid level sensors include capacitive, ultrasonic, and float-type sensors, each of which perceives the liquid level through distinct mechanisms. For instance, a float-type liquid level sensor detects the liquid level by utilizing a float that rises and falls with the liquid surface, thereby actuating a switch or magnetic element to provide a discrete (on/off) signal. In contrast, a capacitive liquid level sensor detects the liquid level by leveraging changes in the liquid's dielectric constant.

 

During operation, a liquid level sensor generates a corresponding electrical signal or mechanical displacement in response to changes in the liquid's height. Taking the ultrasonic liquid level sensor as an example, it operates by emitting ultrasonic pulses toward the liquid surface and subsequently receiving the reflected echo signals; the liquid level height is then calculated based on the time difference of the returning echoes. A capacitive liquid level sensor, on the other hand, measures changes in capacitance values ​​to convert the liquid level height into a continuous voltage or current signal, thereby facilitating subsequent display and control functions.

 

In industrial production settings, liquid level sensors are utilized for applications such as monitoring liquid levels in storage tanks, controlling water levels in boilers, and providing safety interlocks during the transfer of chemical fluids. In daily life, these sensors are frequently employed for the automatic control of water levels in storage tanks, as well as for detecting water levels in appliances such as washing machines and water heaters. By accurately monitoring changes in liquid levels, these sensors not only enhance production efficiency but also safeguard the safety of both equipment and personnel.
