The Optical Liquid Level Sensor is a compact and reliable point-level detection device designed for monitoring transparent liquids in tanks, reservoirs, and fluid systems. Using infrared optical sensing technology, it detects the presence or absence of liquid by measuring changes in light reflection and refraction at the sensing tip. With high repeatability, low switching hysteresis, and no moving sensing parts, this optical liquid level sensor is suitable for space-constrained equipment and automated liquid monitoring applications. Fineherc supports OEM and ODM cooperation to help customers develop customized liquid level sensing solutions for their specific equipment, integration requirements, and target markets.

Product Features
High Repeatability
Repeatability of ±1 mm and hysteresis of ±1 mm for consistent point-level switching.
Compact Design
Suitable for small tanks, narrow installation spaces, and compact equipment.
Fast Response
Response time of 50 μs when the liquid level rises; falling-level response is approximately 1 second and depends on liquid viscosity.
Multiple Output Options
Available configurations include NPN and PNP open-collector outputs, depending on the model.
Working Principle
The optical liquid level sensor operates using infrared light transmission and refraction.
The sensing tip contains an infrared emitter and a semiconductor receiver. When the sensor tip is exposed to air, infrared light is reflected internally toward the receiver. When liquid covers the sensing tip, the refractive index at the interface changes, causing most of the infrared light to escape into the liquid. The reduction in received light triggers an electrical switching response.
The resulting output signal indicates whether the sensing point is wet or dry, depending on the selected model and output configuration.
This optical detection principle enables reliable point-level monitoring without a mechanical float mechanism.
Important: The sensor detects liquid at a specific installation point; it is not a continuous liquid-level measuring transmitter.

Installation Method
Follow these steps for reliable installation and operation.
Step 1: Select the Installation Position
Choose the required detection point according to the desired high-level or low-level monitoring function. Ensure the sensing tip can contact the liquid when the level reaches the switching point.
Step 2: Select the Appropriate Connection
Choose the required mounting version: M14 with nut, R1/2, or 1/2-inch NPT. Verify that the thread and sealing arrangement match the tank or equipment connection.
Step 3: Mount the Sensor
Install the sensor securely and check the sealing components. The sensor's sensing tip should not point downward, as liquid droplets adhering to the tip may cause switching errors.
Step 4: Connect the Electrical Wiring
Connect the sensor according to the wiring diagram for the selected model. Verify the supply voltage, NPN or PNP output type, switching logic, and load-current limits before energizing the device.
Step 5: Test the Switching Function
Test the sensor in both dry and wetted conditions. Confirm that the output changes state as expected and that the connected controller, alarm, or switching circuit responds correctly.
Step 6: Perform Final Verification
Check for leakage, secure mounting, correct signal operation, and compatibility with the actual liquid and operating environment.

FAQ
Q: What is an optical liquid level sensor
A: An optical liquid level sensor is an electronic device that detects the presence or absence of liquid at a specific point. It uses infrared light and changes in optical refraction to trigger an electrical switching signal when the sensing tip becomes wet or dry.
Q: What liquids can this optical liquid level sensor detect?
A: Detection performance depends on the liquid's optical properties and refractive index. Compatibility should be evaluated before use with opaque, highly viscous, corrosive, or otherwise challenging liquids.
Q: Can you provide customized industrial explosion-proof models?
A: Yes. We support customized explosion-proof, high-temperature resistant and enhanced industrial-grade versions according to customer working condition requirements, which can meet the safety detection needs of flammable and explosive industrial fuel scenarios.
Q: How can I select the right optical liquid level sensor for my project?
A: To select a suitable model, provide the liquid type, operating temperature and pressure, required mounting thread, supply voltage, output type, switching logic, and installation environment. If you require OEM branding or ODM development, also provide your target application, estimated order quantity, and any available drawings or technical specifications. Fineherc can then evaluate the requirements and discuss a suitable solution.
Q: Is the sensor resistant to oil dirt and long-term immersion?
A: The whole body is made of high-quality industrial stainless steel with optimized anti-fouling optical probe design. It can resist long-term immersion in fuel and avoid oil dirt adhesion affecting detection accuracy, suitable for long-term continuous industrial operation.
