The standards governing flow meters primarily serve to regulate their design, manufacturing, verification, and operational processes, thereby ensuring the accuracy, consistency, and traceability of measurement results. Different types of flow meters correspond to specific national and industry standards, while also drawing reference from international standardization frameworks.

In terms of international standards, flow meters frequently reference specifications issued by organizations such as the International Organization of Legal Metrology (OIML), the International Organization for Standardization (ISO), and the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC). For instance, ISO 5167 outlines flow measurement methods for differential-pressure flow meters (including orifice plates, nozzles, and Venturi tubes), while OIML R 49 establishes metrological requirements for water meters. These standards provide explicit stipulations regarding structural design, measurement methodologies, and permissible error margins.

Regarding domestic standards, China has established corresponding technical specifications and verification regulations for flow meters. For example, electromagnetic, turbine, and ultrasonic flow meters are each governed by specific national standards (GB) or industry standards (JJG verification regulations), which define their technical requirements, testing procedures, and verification cycles. These standards typically impose strict limits on parameters such as accuracy class, repeatability, pressure loss, and environmental adaptability.

In practical industrial applications, enterprises often integrate industry-specific standards and engineering specifications into their equipment selection and acceptance processes. Sectors such as the chemical, power, and petroleum industries, for instance, frequently adopt more stringent internal standards to ensure the safety and stability of critical operational processes. By adhering to unified standards, flow meters facilitate data consistency across different devices and systems, thereby providing a reliable foundation for industrial automation and metrological settlement.
